City Architects
Durban is an extraordinary city that is as architecturally diverse as it is culturally. Home to the greatest number of Art Deco buildings in Southern Africa, it also boasts some of the most iconic contemporary structures in the world. In addition, there are a great many informal settlements as well as areas and buildings that have fallen into disrepair and been vandalised over time. This is a rapidly urbanising population with associated demands on facilities. Durban City Architects are addressing this by creating living environments and social facilities that meet social needs, whilst meeting building requirements in the current challenge of climate change.
The role of the Durban City Architects is to renew, re-energise and repurpose the city buildings and spaces. Making them beautiful once again, safe and functional. It is also to create new public buildings and amenities for a population that is growing not only in number but in its appreciation of how glorious our hot, vibrant and sometimes confused city really is.
As they shape, craft and venerate our urban landscape, Durban City Architects work collectively to attain one ideal - to make Durban Africa’s most caring and livable city.
They achieve this through project initiation, design, and the implementation and establishment of sustainable operational models (as exemplified by the Priority Zone) across a broad range of projects – urban design, landscaping, city beautification, community facilities, administrative facilities, heritage and demonstration projects and research.
