THE CITY'S HERITAGE
Drawing the public and tourists back to the CBD. Francis Farewell Square is located in the FMPZ, surrounded by several venerable historical buildings. It is a famous tourist attraction that thousands come to visit every year, and is the point from which Durban itself originally sprang. To one side of the square lies Durban City Hall and on the other, the Old Court House.
Housed at City Hall, the Natural Science Museum and Durban Art Gallery boast a wealth of treasures. It is here that Durban’s unique mix of African, Asian and European cultures is honoured and as such, it is the centrepiece of Durban’s valuable heritage. The various integrated improvements made on the FMPZ Pilot Project - in security, services, maintenance and refurbishment - have led to a new influx of visitors; and to a local appreciation not just for what Durban can become, but for what it already is.
