Union Internationale Des Architectes (UIA)

The informal informs the formal. And vice versa. The innovation found in the street and settlements is the new inspiration of architects and designers. The professional interpretations of the architects then return to their origins, re-imagined, transformed, repurposed and more useful than ever. The exhibition itself is a bridge between the concept of informal trading and the ideal of mobile trading. It can change shape, adapting to its new space as it travels, and featuring found objects wherever it goes. Whilst the exhibition itself can seamlessly creep into and merge with exhibitions around it, the merchandise it inspires can live outside of the exhibition area, staying in one city or travelling in an entirely different direction. Either way, wherever it goes, it will leave its mark.
The UIA is all about the notion of trading IDEAS and reconfiguring one’s headSPACE. The biggest and most significant architectural event in the world, the UIA will be proudly hosted by Durban in 2014.
The International Union of Architects is a global network dedicated to the architectural profession.
The Union Internationale des Architectes (International Union of Architects) was founded in Lausanne (Switzerland) on 28th June 1948, to unite the architects of the world without regard to nationality, race, religion, or architectural doctrine, and to federate their national organisations.
It now represents more than 1 300 000 architects from 124 countries, including South Africa.
