4 EXHIBITIONS. 2 COUNTRIES. MANY SPACES.
We think that this is a particularly powerful and all-inclusive overall title that applies equally well to each of the four independent exhibitions that will be on display at the Priority Zone. It works for the following reasons:
We believe this thinking applies to the Sao Paulo, Priority Zone, City Architects and UIA exhibitions, all of which deal on varying levels with repurposing space and buildings and, through that, making a tangible difference to the people engaging or re-engaging with that space, and changing perceptions about that space. They are all positive interventions that lead to behavioural changes.
A creative exhibition of architecture without borders, set in an inner city rooftop garden and working green building conversion. This international cross-cultural exhibition showcases the work of City Architects and Urbanists in Sao Paulo and Durban. It documents the quest for sustainable and high quality living environments in dense inner cities, and features Durban's priority zone urban management initiatives. The exhibition also previews some of the "otherwhere" concepts of the Union Internationale des Architectes (UIA) which Durban will officially host in 2014.
We think that this is a particularly powerful and all-inclusive overall title that applies equally well to each of the four independent exhibitions that will be on display at the Priority Zone. It works for the following reasons:
- To repurpose is to take something that is existing and give it new life by remodelling it, finding a new role for it, reworking or refashioning it into something new and often useful.|
- To repurpose is also to give something a new or added purpose. We see this as the most significant and appropriate aspect of the word in the context of this exhibition. By changing the space in which people live, work and play, we change how they live, work and play and, most importantly, how they FEEL in that space and doing those activities in that space. The same goes for changing the buildings and structures within a space, and the materials, look and feel of those structures.
- To repurpose is to take something that is old/older/pre-existing and give it a future. It is a process that is both respectful and hopeful. Sustainable and optimistic. Familiar and future forward. It’s a positive act, invested with meaning.
